Hey kids, recognise this themetune?
probably wouldn’t watch this
BARRY SHITPEAS
Charlie had it planned all along.
This hasn’t been on my dash in a long time:
Andy Nyman on Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe talking about the creepiest childrens TV show ever: “Junior Christian Science Bible Lesson”.
*shudders*
WARNING
For those who have not seen this before: You will have David Liebe Hart’s voice in your head for all eternity and will hear him sing “I am the image and likeness of God, I am, I am, I aaaaaaaam” whenever it is least appropriate.
Even though I am a Dutch girl who was born in the mid-eighties, the shows of Oliver Postgate were an important part of my childhood.
When first watching this tribute and specially when hearing the mouse song at the end (for the first time in 18 years!), I went completely silent and all these memories came flooding back.
Sitting at my grandma’s house after school, eating cheese and tomato sandwiches and watching TCC (The Children’s Channel), where they showed all these old English kids shows.
It was a big part of my life and I think also the main reason why I learned English at such an early age and became obsessed with Britishness.
Thank you Mr. Postgate and thank you Mr. Brooker for such a loving tribute.
I just love how he talks about Ronnie Hazlehurst and his music with so much admiration and adoration. The smile at about 1:39 is utterly heartwarming and shows that he is in love with music.
